Janus, the god of doorways, looking in front and behind

so not a whole lot going on. i have just been on a cleaning rampage - why do they always happen in the middle of the night? something about the heat and humidity, as well... and the fact that we're moving house in the next few weeks. we have 2 weeks left in this place, we are signing out on the 30th of january. hopefully by that time we will have another place to be living in, but if not, we will stay at the Tegg's place in penshurst until we find a place. but that will be massively inconvenient for further househunting, of course... *sigh*

on the upside, of course, it's a great offer on anne and col's part. so nice knowing nice people!

last week we went kayaking with alice on wednesday, it was so much fun. pete has two one-man kayaks, and alice has a sea kayak (2p), and we all went out in a big flotilla. adam had the trickiest job, given that he has never been before, and he was in a flat-bottomed whitewater kayak, and thus kept going around in wide circles, but he did really well. i had a great time, i kept watching alice's strokes and we kept pretty well in time and shot along fairly fast. my traps were so so sore the next two days though :)

but sore in that good i-have-accomplished-something-physical kind of way.

like tidying. which is i suppose why i thought of it.

it occured to me, not for the first time, that it's a bit of a shame that the only time you really ever properly tidy up a house is when you're moving out. i had such plans for the place in annandale that we didn't end up getting. terrace-style, but weatherboard, with windows in the hallway facing north, so sunny all the time, and wooden floors, and interesting feature walls, and a blue and yellow kitchen. so sweet! jasmine growing up the columns out front, a chair for afternoon reading, planting a deciduous tree on the verge, lots of succulents out the back... we would have really taken care of it, and it would have been easy to take care of! alas, alack. they liked us enough to tell us that we will have agood shot at any of their other properties, and won't need to fill in applications for them etc etc. hopefully between them and richardson and wrench we'll get a place within the next week or so. i know we have somewhere to stay, but your own place is always the best, and i will feel a whole lot like i'm imposing if i literally have nowhere else to go. and then there's the issue of what will we do about keys?

although cooking for them is fun... :D always nice to have an appreciative audience!

at the moment i am listening to my entire windows media player collection of songs on randomise. it's surprising how much really good stuff i have that i hardly ever listen to. and so great to discover it all over again!

tonight i successfully imitated soba noodles, like the ones we had from the japanese restaurant in gladesville. they really are very awesome. the restaurant and the noodles, both.

david is in canberra, warren shortly to follow... with toby and the turtles, who i shall miss pretty badly, for all that they are animals. toby especially, he sleeps so sweetly in our room most afternoons, and is so soft and far friendlier than he ever used to be. though i am sure nookie isn't going to mind the break from constant ambushes. but it's sure going to signal a change. especially when i get a decent paying job - all of a sudden i am feeling very grown up, thinking about mortgages and houses, and career and that... i'm out of uni and it isn't daunting, but i do feel like i am going to lose some of my spontaneity and cheerfulness. just because it's such a great place to wander about.

which reminds me i still haven't borrowed james' camera to take pictures of everything! EVERYTHING, i tell you!
